With that said, I think it's time for this long-time, console gamer to ask what clearly isn't an obvious question: who is the Mario of English Visual Novels?
When I think about my childhood, it's hard to visualize it without the above 8-bit. In fact, I'm not sure I know anyone who don't know the most iconic Italian not named Corleone or Balboa. And without Mario M. Mario, I would argue that gaming would not have reached the zenith it now sits at. Every industry has its own iconography; that symbol or person brings back a feeling of nostalgia so strong it defines entire generations and in every gaming console generation, there have been efforts to recreate that great icon that would define the times.
With that said, I think it's time for this long-time, console gamer to ask what clearly isn't an obvious question: who is the Mario of English Visual Novels?

So, you're following your favorite social media outlets and right about now, if you enjoy video games, you're hearing one of two things. From the 'professional gaming media', the Xbox One reveal is a revival of the rivalry that has defined the medium for the last ten years. From the 'independent gaming media', the Xbox One reveal is a good reason to buy a PS4. The only problem with that collective jerk off/bitching session is that nothing of real value can be gained from it...except that a lot of people need to learn patience: including apparently the markets and Microsoft themselves.
VNs Now is supposed to be a slight step above that with actual thoughtful analysis when something happens in the gaming world that impacts the English Visual Novel one. And regardless of your opinion on the actual machine, there was something that happened at the Xbox One presser that does impact EVNs. But first, let's go over the absolute basics: what did I think about it. |
